Culture at AECOM New Zealand

7.5
7.5 rating for Culture, based on 39 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
The culture is only good because the younger people made it that way. When we make and event we can have fun. The seniors in office don't listen to us sometimes with suggestions and their idea of fun absolutely sucks.

While there is a professional hierarchy, no one holds that over someone else's head. Everyone is very willing to help and upskill others when asked. After hours there is an awesome culture, particularly between the young professionals. There are a number of events run by AECOM but additionally events organised by ourselves (e.g tramping trips)

AECOM's work culture is great. If anything is keeping me here it is the cool jobs and the work culture. We embrace diversity in the workplace and celebrate many cultures. We have a supportive team, from people managers all the way up to the regional manager. We socialize both in the office with work events and after work as well (social sports, BBQs, tea get togethers).

The company seems welcoming and there are quite a number of after hour events. However, I personally think that there is a little bit of unspoken hierarchy. Most teams have good cooperation and teamwork, but like I mentioned earlier this experience varies between teams.

Its typical to work a bit more than 40 hours but most people don't work crazy hours. Teams leads can be disconnected and the process is slow for anything to reach the higher up managers. My teams gets along well but I know many others that don't. Most social events are driven by a few individuals, the office as a whole doesn't push good social events.

If it wasnt for our CONNECT committee, there practically is no work culture. Our team goes out once a year if we are lucky. In the office, your team leads will only like you if you suck up to them and do their admin work. In some cases they have given admin work for months before they give you any "real" design work. Their reason for this is so that can "free up more time so that they can win us more projects". But when we arent winning anything it makes you question why you are still doing their admin work.....

My team is very supportive and helpful. The pace at which i'm learning has been good for a graduate role and I am encouraged by my colleagues. My team is also very social and friendly, making work-life quite enjoyable.

No one in the office have their own office which is really good idea where you can approach your boss easily. Employee manages their own work-time as long as your work completed appropriately. Every Friday, we gather in the kitchen for drink where you get to know other people from different team.

There's not much going on after hours, no real team bonding. During work hours, culture seems okay. However, there is a massive barrier between people and getting to know others, and you need to be careful what you say or do (don't feel like you can be yourself around others sometimes).

Almost everyone in the office is very friendly. I like the people I work with and happily spend time outside of work hours socialising with them. Particularly the early professionals seem to have a good number of social events with good turnout

Culture in the office for myself has been great. All the managers and senior employees are very welcoming and accommodating as are the older graduates and young professionals etc. Connect program has been a massive part of a good culture within the office and has been a great way of getting to know the people in the office outside of the workplace.

We are a pretty small office (60) so we all get to know each other really well. We have pods for our different teams, but we are all often catching up in other pods, and most of our teams work together for projects. We are often catching up and getting feedback as teams, which are around 4 to 10 people, so you develop quite a bit together. Lunch is often taken in the breakroom, but you will see people working through lunch if they have a lot of work on, and they will often leave early as a result. We have a social hour on Friday afternoons, and social events available outside of working hours, such as early professional hikes. Lots of team members also share hobbies and time outside of work.

I really like the culture

In office: tea and lunch breaks with lots of socialising are reasonably regular when people aren't too busy with deadlines. After hours: usually sports events and Friday night drinks are the most consistent after hours events.

Really good, collaborative and relatively flat structure in our office. The different types of engineers (or other) are really linked versus other companies/offices. The social aspects are really good with strong social clubs, young professional clubs and general Friday drinks/lunch etc...

Everyone immediate of me seems very friendly and supportive of each other. I have had much interaction outside of my group because I work mostly in site office.

Decent social events outside of work.

The culture amongst my team is excellent, and amongst the graduate cohort. But much of the social and networking events are left to individuals to organise. Wider office culture I would say is not great, with groups and teams sometimes being removed/distant from others

The culture is diverse and accepting, there is plenty of opportunities to network and catch up with colleagues both inside and outisde of work hours
