The daily tasks are incredibly rewarding as it allows me to essentially bring life to knowledge learnt in classes and see the reality behind it.

What did you study? When did you graduate?

I am currently a final year student at UNSW studying a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in finance and accounting.

Where did you grow up?

I have grown up in Baulkham Hills, Sydney and prior to UNSW, I attended Crestwood High School.

How did you get to your current job position?

At the moment, I am an intern in the finance & analysis team at Mirvac and have been working here from the beginning of December 2019. I got this position by applying for the intern program through the Mirvac Career’s page.

How did you choose your specialisation?

I have always been interested in the property markets, especially of Sydney and felt this was a great place to get some exposure.

What was your interview process like?

My interview process was as expected – group tasks, psychometric testing and a face-to-face interview. In the face-to-face interview, I was asked both technical questions regarding financial modelling and analysis as well as behavioural questions.

What does your employer do?

Mirvac is a leading, diversified Australian property group, with an integrated development and asset management capability.

What are your areas of responsibility?

My areas of responsibility lie in the Office & Industrial sector, where I work for the investment analysts, National Finnace Manager and General Manager of Finance and Analysis.

Can you describe a typical workday?

Every workday tends to be different in the sense that I could be working on property model inputs one day or I could be analysing financial statements on another. I believe this is a great way to progress my career towards an investment analyst position as this internship builds on a lot of corporate finance theory learnt in university.

What do you love the most about your job?

What I love about my role here is the amount of exposure the interns get to industry leaders and how involved the CEO is in the intern program. Also, the daily tasks are incredibly rewarding as it allows me to essentially bring life to knowledge learnt in classes and see the reality behind it.

Which three pieces of advice would you give to a current university student?

  • Work in a role and industry you enjoy – I know it sounds cliché but it’s incredibly true.
  • Do as many internships in different areas you’re interested in before you graduate to help you understand where you want to end up once you graduate.
  • Bring lunch from home, you’ll save a lot of money.
